The History In The Name Of

Jonah Vann Buren Love

The name Jonah comes from the Love Family Tree. Going all the way back to the year 1875, when a man named Jonah Askew Love was born. He was to grow up and marry Elizabeth Kiker Love, having 15 children with her. Out of those 15 children, were 2 sets of twins. During the delivery of the first set of twins, Jonah had decided he wanted to incorporate his name into the twins name! The twins were a boy and a girl, and he named them Jonah Love and Wilma Askew Love. Sadley, Jonah Love only lived for a few weeks/months after his birth. Jonah Askew Love, though continuing to have 8 more children after, never passed his name down again to any of his children. The name Jonah is in the remembrance of not only the Great, Great, Great Grandfather, Jonah Askew Love, but to his son, who he named after himself, that never got to grow old and show the world his "Love".

JONAH

Vann Buren

The name Vann Buren comes from a man born in 1905, a man whose father was actually Jonah Askew Love "listed above", and was named Vann Buren Love. Van Buren would grow up and settle in Gastonia North Carolina, where we are today. Van Buren Love is the Great, Great Grandfather of Jonah Van Buren Love.

OTHER LOVE HISTORY

By Samuel Preston Love

Over the past few months, starting in February 2025, I decided that I would set out to figure more out about my family tree and history. You see, the only Loves I know, is my father, my half brother, and my uncle. Besides their kids, that's it. Keep in mind, my half brother and uncle both have 2 girls, who will not pass down the last name. So, I knew it would be up to me to have a boy to continue my line. Knowing all of this, I knew it was going to be difficult, if not impossible, to just find things on the web, using no paid service to help me. Boy was I wrong.

I started by finding the grave of my great grandfather, Van Buren Love, and from there, things got absolutely crazy very quick. in just 3 days, I was able to trace my family all the way back to the year 1720. Not only this, but I found out where they all are buried, including Rev. James Love, my great, great, great, great, great, Grandfather, who was born in 1775.

The gravesite is a undocumented historical landmark, from the 1700s, and has no record with the state of North Carolina. When I called, they were actually excited, and astonished themselves, saying that them receiving a phone call about someone finding a grave site, this old that is still intact, only happens a few times in ones carrier. The grave site is actually called "Loves Family Cemetary" due to records I have found. You can also google map this!

I decided to take the trip to Midland NC to see the site for myself. Upon arrival, I stepped out of my car to what was a big, beautiful corn field, with the stumps of the corn still sticking up from the ground from last years harvest. In the middle of the corn field, was a little hill, with trees all around. This is where the map pointed, so I began walking through that corn field, to arrive at a beautiful circular stone wall. On one side of the wall of rocks, was a entry gate that was lying on the ground. I was shocked at what I seen.

Discovering this grave site has lead me in learning so much more about my family history. My family were amongst some of the very first families to settle here in North Carolina. They came here from Scotland, with purpose, and to be free. What they built throughout time is a history book full of wonderful stories. Something I myself may one day wright more about. From the finding of gold on REEDS Gold Mine, to sharing the gospel of our Lord and Savior to everyone around them, the history of my family is still seen throughout this beautiful state today.

If you are interested and feel lead, I have included links below that will take you to some websites that show the different history of my family. Always feel free to ask any questions.

The Late Jonah Askew Love and His Family Of Stanley - 1890

James immigrated to Virginia in 1665, joining the wave of Scots who ventured to the Americas during this period. He later settled in Rappahannock, Virginia, where he lived until his death in 1747. His Family's move to Virginia signifies the larger migration patterns of Scots during the early colonial Period.

James Loves legacy continued through his children, who helped establish the Love name in America. His descendance have since expanded, forming branches of the family tree that connect back to Scotland. The Love family has remained a point of interest for genealogists and historians emphasizing the importance of family heritage in understanding American ancestry.
